My name is Eva Dukerschein and I am raising money for my dog Maciek's cancer surgery. Maciek came into our lives in 2017. He was a wiggly string bean of a puppy, not unusual for a Borzoi. And just like any other Borzoi, he grew and grew and grew! For the past 8 years, this gentle giant has been filling our lives with light and laughter. And then, on April 26th, everything changed.

It was supposed to be an exam to check the quality of his hips. He is a big boy, after all. But then the vet found a mass on his liver. After more diagnostics, we learned that he has a large tumorous mass on his lower left liver - hepatocellular carcinoma. The vet believes that if we are able to operate, we can get him cancer-free.

Tragically, in 2020 during the COVID pandemic, my wife lost her job and became disabled. Unable to work, we went from a two-income household to a one-income household overnight. It was only thanks to the help of our friends and family that we were able to keep ourselves afloat. Maciek was our lighthouse in the storm. No matter how dark the night seemed, he would be there with a wag and a smile.
