My Journey With Heart Failure — And the Hope Stem Cell Therapy Has Given Me

I’m Anita and thanks for taking the time to visit my page. Sharing my journey is personal, but it matters to me because it’s a story of struggle, hope, and deep gratitude.

Almost 2 years ago on New Years Eve, I was diagnosed with heart failure after a heart attack. A moment that completely changed my life. I was incredibly fortunate to respond well to optimised medication, and it helped make me stronger and more stable and get on with daily life but even with the best treatment and the best effort, heart failure changes how your body works.

I often describe it like this:
I may look fine on the outside—like a high-performance car cruising through city streets without any trouble. But the moment you take that car onto the motorway, suddenly there’s a limiter set at 50 mph. No matter how much you press the pedal, your body won’t go any faster. That’s what heart failure feels like: you can still move, still function, still smile… but the limits are always there.

Then came an unexpected source of hope.

I had the opportunity to receive heart stem cell therapy through the Stem Cell compassionate unit at St Barts Hospital London. Their dedication to research and innovative treatment will increase my heart strength and avoid having a defibrillator implant. A stronger heart means I can feel more of who I used to be and not fear certain activities we all take for granted. They saw me not as a diagnosis but as a person, with work I still wanted to do, a family I love deeply, and a life I wasn’t ready to step back from.

This is why I’m raising money for the Stem Cell Foundation. Their work provides possibilities for people like me, possibilities that mean more birthdays, more memories, my passion to still work, more time with family and friends and more hope.

If you’re able to donate, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Every contribution supports research that could change someone’s future. And if you can’t donate, simply sharing my story helps more than you know.

Thank you for standing with me.
Thank you for believing in hope.
And thank you for helping ensure others get the chance I’ve been given.
