Hi, my name is Delaney Warren, and I'm a 24 year old female from Gainesville, FL.
I was diagnosed with CKD (chronic kidney disease)/ESRD (end stage renal disease) caused by an auto immune rare condition called glomerulonephritis. Nobody in my family has glomerulonephritis and this is not a genetic disease. The cause of my disease is unknown. Essentially, glomerulonephritis is where inflammation occurs in the glomeruli, specifically tiny filters that are supposed to remove waste from the blood, which is what my kidneys couldn't do anymore. Before I got diagnosed with CKD, I was having blurry vision and throwing up. I couldn’t take care of myself and needed help from my family. I’ve had several hospitalizations on and off from the spring and summer months of 2024.
After numerous hospital stays, my GFR (kidney function) dropped down to 11% by May 2024 and I was not on dialysis yet. Based on research, my GFR should be 90+% for my age.
Additionally, when I got hospitalized August 2024, I began dialysis. I got diagnosed with hypertension (high blood pressure) due to both of my kidneys failing.
During this hospital stay, I had a chest catheter placed to start Hemo dialysis.
For the next 4 months, I was at the DaVita dialysis clinic 3 times a week doing dialysis for 3 hours and 15 minutes per session.
That's 9 hours and 45 minutes a week.
Unfortunately, my mom and I lost our apartment and had to move in with another family member.
Moreover, I was initially in the process of getting transplanted at Tampa General. My new nephrologist, Dr. M suggested for me to go to his preferred transplant center due to personal connections and the transplant clinic's reputation as well as positive transplant outcomes.
By the end of the year, I started peritoneal dialysis which is another form of dialysis treatment that is better on the body and preserves kidney function which, I had to train for before I did the treatment at home every night.
My mom posted information on Facebook stating that I need a living kidney donor. After a miraculous series of events, I met my donor, Kristie. She was a B+ like me and turned out to be a match.
Eventually, my peritoneal dialysis stopped working and I had to switch back to temporary Hemo dialysis.
Several months later...
I got a live kidney transplant on June 10th, 2025!
Your support can assist with my kidney transplant journey. Donations and sharing with your friends & family would mean the world to me. This will help me with things such as covering ongoing medical costs (I have to take immunosuppressants for the rest of my life to prevent organ rejection). Donations will also be used to help my family with living expenses and transportation.
