I am not normally the type of person who asks for help. I try to help everyone that I can; now I am the one who needs help. I am a 58-year-old woman with advanced liver disease and am currently awaiting a liver transplant. I am a mother to four adult children and a grandmother of 5. I just want to get my liver so that I can watch my grandchildren grow up. I have fought drug addiction and am currently 11 years sober. I have worked the same full-time job for seven years. As my liver disease advances and I experience more side effects, it has become increasingly difficult to work the hours that I need to work. This has put great financial strain on me and my daughter as I am unable to pay my portion of the bills, and she is unable to provide for the two of us as well as care for me on days that I am unable to do so myself.
My insurance only reimburses one support person for food, travel, and lodging, but I currently have two support people. These two people are my two daughters. They have both had to take time off of work as I have had a few out-of-town hospital admissions and have to travel 2 hours from my home to my specialist appointments. This money will be used for living expenses, medications as I currently have commercial insurance, and transportation costs as my specialists are at OSU. Please give me the opportunity to continue living and watch my grandchildren grow up.
