Give Hope to a Family in Crisis After Tragic Collision

Donation protected
Thank you for taking the time to hear my story. I need your help to raise enough funds to support a motorcyclist who needs a year to heal beforehe can fully walk again.

Last year, I was in a horrible accident.
It happened on a stretch of road with limited visibility—
a vehicle in front of me suddenly stopped to turn into a gas station,
right in a blind spot caused by a long-bed truck in the opposite lane.

Its high beams were on, and I couldn’t see the car ahead until it was too late.

I tried to brake.
But the road was wet.
The tires lost grip, and I began to lose control.

The vehicle veered to the right, pushing me toward a steep ditch.
Instinctively, I turned left—trying to steady the car.
That sudden maneuver sling-shotted me directly between the long-bed truck and the stopped vehicle.

At that exact moment, a motorcycle was trying to pass around the truck.
We collided.
At around 30 kilometers an hour.

Everything stopped.
I couldn’t breathe.
I had never been in a head-on collision before,
and for a few moments, my body simply didn’t know how to respond.

I slowly got out of the car and saw that the motorcyclist was still on the ground, not responding, as three people who saw the accident came to see how they could help. Luckily, he had a helmet, as he had flown off the vehicle and into the front of my car. I was shocked and was doing my best to breathe in the situation. I sat next to the motorcyclist and just prayed. I realized I was okay, but this man I feared was potentially dead, so I prayed for him to breathe—and eventually, he started to respond. The pain he was in started to flood his consciousness, and he gave out cries of pain.

I felt I was in a nightmare. His brother was nearby, and we exchanged info as an ambulance arrived to take him to the hospital. Later on, we began discussing ways of me helping support his family through the hard times. I was able to find some vehicles that friends were willing to donate, but they kept saying they needed the money—because without him being able to work, his family couldn't afford rent. Insurance luckily covered all the surgery he has gone through, but the hospital said it won’t be for a year until he can walk again.

He's requesting help with getting money that covers what he would've made working, plus the money it costs for rehabilitation therapy he's taking to rebuild strength in his broken leg and hip. In total, it's around $1,400 a month that he's requesting.

I am currently struggling to make funds to barely support myself, and I need to get these funds to him as soon as possible because he'd be willing to not take this to court. I've been advised by lawyer friends to get him the money because the Costa Rican court system is typically not kind to foreigners. I could potentially face being kicked out of the country.

I want to continue to support my mother here as she ages. I've been resistant to creating a GoFundMe, and I've been trying my best to solve this problem on my own, but I think I need help—and friends have asked me to create this so that they can support me through this.

I've learned how much I want the best for everyone, and I know this man deserves support. Help me make things right and give this man and his family a chance to stay above the water during these hard times.

All funds raised will be given to Randall to help his family during his recuperation.
