I’m reaching out about someone very close to my heart — a dear friend I went to school with. She’s 21 now and a survivor of the war in Sudan, which began on April 15, 2023. The conflict took everything from her — her home, stability, and the chance to finish high school.

Because of her age, it’s now illegal for her to attend a regular school in her country, so she’s enrolled in an online high school equivalency program, her only path to graduation. Her school fees total $4,200 USD (≈ $5,768 CAD).

Her father passed away, and her mother is very ill. She’s doing her best to care for her mom while trying to complete her education. Despite everything, she still finds ways to smile, make jokes, and stay hopeful — a strength that inspires me deeply.
