BE A HERO! There are not many times in life when we can choose to be a hero. According to Webster’s dictionary the word hero shares 5 values, Courage, Resilience, Commitment to Values, Inspiration and Positive impact on others. Well, I am going to need a lot of heroes. I know many of you saw my Facebook post a few months ago highlighting my trip to Miami to speak at the Bioness meeting and seeing Brooklyn 6 years after she received her L300 devices. We were able to help Brooklyn get the L300 devices because we had a lot of heroes donate money through a Go Fund Me I started. The devices changed Brooklyn’s life. As the saying goes, we need to run it back.

I was made aware this week of an 8-year-old girl who lives in central Ohio that needs help. She was diagnosed with Friedreich’s Ataxia, a neuromuscular disease, in February of this year. This is a horrible disease that no child or parent should have to deal with. The disease has impacted her life significantly. Her Mom told me she has had to give up sports and many things she loves due to balance issues and foot drop. The issues she is having with her gait and balance are draining her emotionally and physically. As an adult it was draining on me, I can only imagine the toll it takes on a child. Foot drop can cause serious injuries due to not being able to lift your foot and tripping. I have had very personal experience with foot drop and it is debilitating.

The L300 Brooklyn and I use is exactly what she needs. Unfortunately, insurance has denied the request for the L300 and her family is in need of heroes. I am not going to get into the whole bashing insurance company routine, but this is disappointing. The L300 works, trust me I have first hand experience. This device will help this little girl immensely, give her hope, let her experience simple things we all take for granted and give her a boost when she needs it most.

100% of the money donated will go to the purchase of the L300 for this little girl. The goal is big, $10,000. If we are lucky enough to exceed our goal we will find another person in need of these life-changing devices. Please be a hero!
