Hi, my name is Taylor. I’m a PhD student, and my best friend is my beloved cat, Herman.

Herman is a 9yo brown tabby, and I adopted him 7 years ago as an FIV+ rescue. Anyone who knows him knows he’s full of personality and always talking, always curious, and absolutely the life of the party (especially if there’s food involved).

2 weeks ago, during a vet visit, Herman was diagnosed with an aggressive form of lymphoma in his GI tract.

Lymphoma in cats is often fatal. Without treatment, Herman may only have days to weeks. With chemotherapy alone, the prognosis is typically just a few months. But because his cancer was caught relatively early, there is hope: a combination of surgery and chemotherapy could potentially put him into remission and give him more time.

The cost of giving Herman that chance is overwhelming. Surgery is estimated at $6,000, and chemotherapy around $10,000, bringing the total to approximately $16,000, which is nearly two-fifths of my annual stipend as a PhD student.

Before I make the decision to decline surgery, I want to see if I can get help from all of you to give my best friend and cat, a chance to live.
