Give Henry's Mom a Little Help with His Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Lisa has finally, reluctantly, agreed to let us start a GoFundMe for Henry’s expenses.
If you recall, a month ago, Lisa Gilliam received devastating news that her cat, Henry, needed Perineal Urethrostomy (PU) surgery that could cost between $5,000-$10,000. An expense she couldn’t afford after spending the past 4 weeks bringing him back and forth to the vet’s office for various treatments for crystals in his bladder. Faced with having to put Henry down, Lisa called around trying to find a more reasonably priced office. In the process, she was offered another alternative: surrender Henry to a rescue that would pay for the surgery, but with no guarantee she would be able to get him back. Lisa was shocked and posted a small rant on Facebook.
But that’s not the point. What happened on her post was that a lot of her friends stepped up and offered to send some money to help cover the surgery. Of course, Lisa turned everyone down. Because she’s like a lot of people, quick to offer others a helping hand, but not always willing to receive that help.
Since that initial quote, Lisa did find an office to perform the surgery at a lower cost and who also knew to run an echocardiogram to check for blood clots before performing the surgery. And Henry’s now on a special diet. But, between everything that had to be done, the total cost has exceeded $8,000. Finally, I was able to convince Lisa to let us help. A little bit from a lot of people will go a long way.
Lisa is a terrific person. In addition to Henry and his brother Harry, she is “catmom” to Vivie, Jack, and Teddy. All are rescues. Henry and Harry were the “healthy” ones. Vivie was tossed out a car window as a kitten. Having 3 legs and being blind in 1 eye doesn’t slow her down a bit. Jack has one eye. The other was ruptured by kids when he was a kitten. And Teddy has munchkin legs from failure to develop as a result of a hoarding situation.
Lisa jokes that she gets her cats on clearance, bottom shelf, or in the back room.
But they’re the luckiest kitties around to have her for a Momma. If you can, please toss a few coins this way. All funds will go directly to Lisa to help with Henry’s medical bills.
