Hi everyone! My name is Britney, and I have been saving animals off the streets of Alabama since I moved here three years ago. I also volunteer with PAWS of Alabama and the Humane Society of Elmore County.

Friday afternoon, I received a call from someone who adopted one of my foster kittens, saying she found a kitten and didn’t know what to do. She was going to bring him to the humane society, but I told her to let me grab him first. We have high-kill shelters in this area, and we lose so many amazing animals due to lack of space and funding. His injuries didn’t look good, and I had him at the vet that evening. The vet and I agreed that he was most likely thrown from someone’s vehicle, which caused his jaw to snap in half and his femur to completely break off. I knew had she brought him to the shelter, he would have been euthanized.

We made him comfortable for the weekend until we could get him under anesthesia and do X-rays Tuesday. I picked him up with the news that all his injuries are fixable for the low price of $7,000 to $12,000. If his injuries don’t get fixed, he will have to be euthanized. His femur needs to be fixed as soon as possible, and his jaw injuries are so extensive that she needs time to research how she’s going to fix it. I named him Hal - short for Halitosis - because the infection from his broken jaw gave him the most rancid breath I have ever smelt. He’s a two-month-old kitten, and now I’m here to fight for Hal’s life. He is the sweetest, most loving kitten in the world to every single human that holds him, even though he was failed miserably by humans. He deserves to live a full life.

Everything will go directly to Hal’s treatment and surgeries, and if there is anything left over, I will donate it to other rescue organizations. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and helping me save Hal.
