Gordo journey with squamous cell carcinoma.

I never imagined I would be writing something like this or asking people for help, but Gordo means too much to me not to try.

Gordo came into our lives as a foster after he was surrendered in terrible condition. He had dental problems, severe skin issues, and had so much anxiety that he had bitten off a piece of his own tongue. He was placed on the euthanasia list twice. Twice, his life was at risk.

But Gordo was still here. And when we met him we KNEW he deserved a chance.

We gave him that chance.

Since then, we’ve watched him get what we thought was healthier, feel better, and become the sweet, loving boy that was always there underneath all the pain and neglect. He finally had someone in his corner.

Yesterday we found out that Gordo has squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) located on the right maxilla.

His first oncology consultation is this Friday. I will waste no time. We still don’t know exactly what treatment he will need. He will likely need a CT scan to determine whether the cancer has spread and to help the oncologist figure out the best course of action. Depending on what they find, treatment could involve radiation, chemotherapy, surgery, or a combination of treatments.

Right now, we don’t have all the answers.

But I do know one thing: I am not ready to give up on him.

After everything Gordo has already been through, I can’t help but feel like he has fought too hard to get here for his story to end now. We gave him a second chance when he needed someone to believe in him, and I want to give him every opportunity to keep fighting.

The money raised will help cover his oncology consultation, CT scan, diagnostics, medications, and whatever treatment his doctors determine is best for him. We don’t know what the total cost will be yet because we don’t know what his treatment plan will look like. We just want to be able to make decisions based on what gives Gordo the best chance not solely on what we can afford.

Gordo has already been through more than any dog should have to endure.
