Give Goji a Pain-Free Life: Donate Now

I'm Goji's mom and let me tell you, he is one in a million awesome dog! I am the type of person that hates to reach out and ask for help. I can't stand asking people for money or borrowing money from people. So this is very hard for me to do. Goji needs help and I'm having to put those feelings aside because I know that my handsome boy needs help! I recently adopted him and made him an official part of the family. He has been a part of the family since August 2024 when I began fostering him. Goji was a survivor of being on the euthanasia list at a local shelter. He literally fought for his life and was saved by a local rescue. He went into the shelter after being shot in his hip; the bullet traveled through his hip and went down and shattered his femur and tibia bone. Goji, being the tough boy that he is, went into the shelter, got X-rays done, but unfortunately, the shelter couldn't afford the surgery. The rescue and I reached out to four different vets to see what was the best course of action and what needed to be done to help Goji. Along the way, we got so many different answers that I kept reaching out to more orthopedic vets and more surgeons on what was the best option. I continued to get different opinions. I had heard Goji needs amputation to that leg, leave it alone and just go with pain meds, needs surgery but no one will touch it due to the massive damage that he has.

I finally contacted two very well-known orthopedic surgeons and that's where it took me and Goji to this past Friday. After contacting a total of 10 surgeons and orthopedic surgeons, I feel like we finally were getting answers we needed! On Friday (3/21/2025), Goji had an appointment with Auburn Veterinary Specialists in Gulf Shores, AL. Goji loved meeting everyone, especially the orthopedic surgeon. The orthopedic surgeon just kept bragging about how awesome Goji was and how much of a tough boy he is and a total fighter! Unfortunately, after running all the tests on Goji, he showed us the new X-rays and compared them to the previous X-rays. It was heartbreaking to see the changes in Goji's condition, not for the better. Goji had lost a lot of muscle mass in his leg, in his thigh and hip area. The ball socket was breaking away and creating bone against bone issues and was just hanging out of the socket. The surgeon was hoping that Goji could just do pain management, physical therapy, and avoid surgery, but with the news, unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

Goji will be having surgery on Monday, 3/24/2025, and after recovery and healing takes place, Goji will be attending physical therapy with one of two vets that we were given information on. Mom (myself) has to do some research and figure out which one can help Goji the most. We have checked into laser therapy, acupuncture, and water treadmill as well, but Goji can't do water treadmill until he is released from the surgeon and the wounds heal.

I am asking for prayers for Goji in his upcoming surgery on Monday and recovery. I am asking for prayers for the surgeons and his team to take amazing care of Goji. I am praying that everything goes well and Goji heals quickly. Anyone that knows Goji knows his love for life and he likes to have fun. I think the hardest part for Goji during this time is not being able to play with his friends. Donations are very much appreciated if you want to help.

The diagnoses that were given to Goji on Friday, 3/21/2025, are Definitive Luxation - Coxofemoral, Definitive Hip Dysplasia - Coxofemoral Laxity, and Definitive Degenerative Joint Disease - Coxofemoral Joint. They are having to reconstruct the shattered bone as well as do an FHO surgery (Femoral Head Osteotomy). Xray's will be added from 2024 and 2025 recent.
