UPDATE: With your help, it is with the utmost humility to share many of Elisa's much needed medical treatments have resumed for the next two months; she has undergone her initial eye surgeries and they have been paid in full; the recent out-of-pocket expenses for her MRI's and other imaging have been paid in full; her necessary prescription eyeglasses, for this stage in her eye surgery recovery, have been paid in full; her prescription medication and prescribed supplements for the next two months, have been paid in full; in addition, her Orthodontic treatment has been paid in full.

Elisa recently turned 62. She is one of the most kind, selfless people you could ever meet, she is always caring for others before herself. As many times before, Elisa's health has regressed once again and she doing her best to get back to her happy, witty, vibrant, thriving, and independent self. She needs your help to do so!

Elisa's health decline over the past decade, has been due to rare genetic mutations and birth defects. The reality has been facing multiple complex and chronic conditions. Elisa has fought hard to stay functional, and be hopeful. Each time her health regresses, the financial burden begins to mound. Like a domino effect, the medical expenses have carried over from one health set back to another. With each new medical condition, the costs have reached a point in which her wellbeing depends on the necessary funds to continue her journey to wellness and thrive.

For years, Elisa has applied for help. It has been one denial after another, due to not knowing the rarity of her medical diagnoses. She feels lost in a broken system. There are not enough words to convey how much financial assistance Elisa needs. It is with the utmost sincerity I am asking for help to continue helping Elisa, help needed long before now.

Despite having health insurance, the deductible, copays, and exclusions leave the majority of Elisa’s treatments fully out-of-pocket. It has been necessary to take out six personal loans to continue her treatment. I work two jobs, well over 80 hours a week. Our children, family members, and many friends have also given all they can as well. Due to all of the costs combined, it is no longer feasible without much needed monetary assistance.

Elisa’s ongoing and necessary medical needs:

She was born with 14 genetic mutations, two homozygous, which have led to a cascade of serious health issues, including:

    •    Aggressive, genetic eye disease and posterior subcutaneous cataracts in both eyes. This required immediate surgery in both eyes, she was at risk of permanent blindness.

Eye Surgery UPDATE: Her initial eye surgeries have been completed. She does have some remaining visual issues such as: excessive headaches, elevated pressure, some swelling within the eye, as well as overall swelling including her face and eyes due to side effects from the eye drops. ***PAYMENT HAS BEEN MADE IN FULL, DUE TO YOUR GENEROSITY. Next, Elisa will require at least two more eye procedures, one in each eye. She has legal vision in both eyes with corrective lenses. The remaining cost is unknown, updates will be provided.

-Neural Forminal Cervical Spine Stenosis (C3/C4) and Narrowing of her Spine: This affects the brain stem and nervous system, as well as, causes blood circulation restrictions, pinched nerves, and chronic neck pain. Elisa hasn't been unable to undergo further testing or treatment, she is recovering from eye surgery. Within a few weeks, the hope is she will be able to have more tests. At that time, answers will be given on moving forward with a treatment plan. The cost is unknown, updates will be provided.

    •    Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) in both shoulders, and Scalene Thoracic Outlet Syndrome in the right side of her neck. This causes severe nerve compression, impaired circulation, and now tremors in her arms and hands throughout her day. If untreated, it will result in permanent paralysis. She requires regular physical therapy to sustain the use of her arms and hands.

    •    Lyme disease and Alpha-Gal Syndrome, which has caused extreme pain throughout her body, requires strict dietary management to avoid life-threatening allergic reactions. This diet is highly restrictive and expensive. She also requires a costly antihistamine regime and must carry an EpiPen at all times (another substantial out-of-pocket cost).

    •    Metabolic syndrome, autoimmune disease, nutrient malabsorption, and 17 critical deficiencies affecting her overall health, as well as, the chemical distribution in her brain. Her inability to retain and metabolize much needed medication and supplementation, in turn affects her other organs.

Collectively, Elisa requires ongoing testing; bi-monthly IV's; four weekly injections; physical therapy; daily prescription medication; and specific daily prescribed supplementation with a strict diet (in addition to her Alpha Gal diet restrictions).

Essential monthly costs, with updated amounts with new discounts, include:

    •    $1,300 for bi-monthly IV therapy. ***IV TREATMENTS FOR THE NEXT TWO MONTHS HAVE RESUMED, DUE TO YOUR GENEROSITY. THANK YOU SO MUCH***

    •    $650+ in prescription medication and essential prescribed supplements. ***TWO MONTHS OF PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION AND PRESCRIBED SUPPLEMENTS HAVE BEEN ORDERED DUE TO YOUR GENEROSITY, THANK YOU SO MUCH***

    •    $250 for weekly physical therapy.

    •    Travel and lodging to appointments.

    •    Dental work: $7,950 currently on a $229 per month payment plan. ***PAYMENT HAS BEEN MADE IN FULL DUE TO YOUR GENEROSITY, THANK YOU SO MUCH***

Next, she will require an additional $6,250+ for two crowns and an upper partial

Note: Elisa's necessary dental work is due to effects from Lyme Disease. This caused her teeth to shift and become loose. She will have permanent retainers once her Orthodontic treatment is complete.

    •    Frequent blood work, doctor visits, new treatments, and follow-ups.

Elisa and I have never asked for help, but we’re out of options. Every day we delay her continued treatments and vital care, is a risk for further decline. We are doing everything we can, but simply can't keep up with her rising medical costs on our own. Life savings and retirement accounts have been depleted. Our family home and most all personal possessions have been sold. We have downsized to a very minimal lifestyle. A sixth personal loan, all of which is to pay for treatments and medical necessities, has now been taken out. Again, insurance excludes and does not cover these costs.
