Every Child Deserves A Childhood - One Toy At A Time

Donation protected
In late March 2025, just a few weeks after losing our father, my 17-year-old brother was diagnosed with osteosarcoma - a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer that typically affects teenagers during growth spurts, often targeting the long bones in the arms or legs.

The diagnosis meant immediate treatment. He began 10 intensive weeks of chemotherapy at University College London Hospital (UCLH), followed by a 13-hour limb-saving surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) on July 3rd. Thanks to the incredible surgical team, the operation was a success - but the road to walking again will take 6 months to a year. He now faces another 20 weeks of chemotherapy, with the hope of being declared cancer free by November and returning to education in early 2026.

Upon arriving at Great Ormond Steet, we realised that even through our own hardship, we were still more fortunate than many families we came across. We witnessed first hand the strength, courage, and resilience of these children, many of them who have spent the majority of their young lives in hospital rooms. We met children no older than 10 who’ve never known life outside of treatment, procedures, and isolation. Their childhoods - something so many of us take for granted - are often limited or lost.

After conversing and understanding how different everyone's lives and stories are, I began building relationships in GOSH. I met one young boy, visibly down after surgery and got him a small Minecraft figure and his mood completely lifted as his eyes lit up with joy. A simple toy brought him back to life. That joy reminded us of our own childhoods, filled with imagination, play, and laughter - memories made possible by the love and care of our late father.

In his honour, and as a form of sadaqah jariyah (ongoing charity), we want to give that same spark of joy to as many children as possible.

Our goal is to donate at least 100 brand-new toys to the children of Great Ormond Street Hospital - toys for all ages, from soft toys and LEGO to dolls, colouring books, action figures, and board games. We want every child to experience a piece of the childhood they deserve.

This is a 100% donation based fundraiser. Every penny raised will go directly to:

  • Supplying toys to the children and playrooms at GOSH
  • Supporting paediatric research and treatment innovation through GOSH Charity
  • Contributing to the UCLH Macmillan Cancer Centre to advance cancer care and research for people of all ages

We hope you'll join us in bringing smiles, comfort, and hope to children who need it most. Every donation, no matter the size, helps make a hospital feel a little more like home - and gives a child a reason to smile again.

Thank you for supporting this cause so close to our hearts.
