Eddie was saved from being euthanized at the shelter 20 minutes before his appointment. Since then it's taken a village of Eddie fans to bring him out of his shell, but he has been bounced around a lot. Eddie is a gentle,105lb 3 year-old gentle giant but his most recent foster noticed his ears were bothering him When she cleaned them she discovered "more black gunk than I've ever seen" coming out of his ears. She took him straight to the vet. Turns out his ear infection was so bad they were not able to tell whether this stemmed from internal or external infection, and whether the infection ruptured his ear drums.

They had to sedate Eddie to clean his ear since it hurt him so badly to even try to clean it. They were also not able to clean it entirely due to the infection of the ear drum. The process to clean the infected ear drum completely would be a flush system the ecember 6 at vet can administer at a recheck scheduled for Dec. 6th.

Meg, the heroic foster who took him in, is treating the infected ear drum with 1) liquid wash safe for ear drum use + cotton (usual ear cleaners will make the infection worse since the ear drum is ruptured)

2) Prednisone 20mg steroid to stop inflammation and kill infection for 6 days (tapered off)

3) Cefpodoxime 200 mg for 7 days an antibiotic to kill infection

4) Ofloxcin topical ointment safe for ear drum rupture.

For the next week Eddies ears will be cleaned every day, and he will be given the prescription on timely measure. 12 and 24 hours.

Depending on results of medication will see if Eddie needs an ear specialist...
Fecal exam will given be on Monday as well as a parasitic check to make sure this infection is not from mites or any sort of parasite.

Eddie is jsut an incredibly gentle, sweet boy who has been so patient and well-behaved through all of this. He is such a gorgeous gentleman with his brindle coat and he always has a smile. Please help us get the best care for Eddie going forward and make sure he can stay with this amazing foster Meg until he's healthy and ready to find his forever home.
