Give Duggie a Fighting Chance

"Hi, I’m Duggie! I am a 9 week old (red merle) miniature Australian Shepherd. I’ve got two different colored eyes (one blue eye, one green eye). I’m a super smart and spunky boy that has already learned how to sit and lay down. My mama was working on “leave it” with me but I’m not quite too sure what that means yet. I made it to my FUREVER home on Friday, 1/22, and instantly fell in love with my mama, dada and some of my other family members that have come to visit."              -Duggie

Four weeks ago we saw this face and instantly fell in love. We knew he was meant to be ours. We spent the next and upcoming weeks buying two beds, a play pan, a crate, dog food, ALL the toys and doggie treats. Finally, pick up day arrived and we could not wait to get to the airport to welcome our pup home. We were so excited we were 2 hours early! Once we finally got to see him and hold him, our hearts completely melted and became his instantly. He slept the entire ride home; but once we arrived at the house, he instantly made himself comfortable.

On Monday, 1/25, we took him to the vet to get a puppy wellness check and made sure everything checked out. On Thursday, 1/28, at 2:30am, our poor baby began throwing up and every thirty minutes afterwards, he continued to throw up. We called the pet hospital and they told us to bring him in immediately as he was beginning to show early symptoms of parvo.

Parvo? Impossible. How? We’ve been diligent in keeping Duggie in the house! Every pup owner that’s done their research knows you CANNOT take your new puppy out until they have had all of their vaccines. We have not seen the light of day since we brought him home. There is NO way he would test positive for parvo. The night before, mama thought she gave Duggie too many “tweats” trying to train him to “leave it” and that was the reasoning for his upset stomach.

At 6:30am, we arrived at the pet hospital with the technician waiting for Duggie to take his parvo test. About 20 minutes later, the technician came back out confirming every dog owners WORST nightmare. Our 9 week old Duggie had tested positive for parvo. Now if you are a dog lover, you understand how absolutely devastating this is. The fact that we’ve been planning for his arrival for so long and have been EXTREMELY excited to just have him here with us, felt like a dagger twisted directly into our hearts. We’ve only had a short 6 days with our baby boy...

The fortunate part… The vet said that he has a fighting chance as long as he gets the proper care and all the fluids in order to stay hydrated so he can fight this disease. The unfortunate part is that in order to do this, it’s NOT cheap, but mama and dada are prepared to do whatever it takes to give our Duggie a fighting chance! We know it has been a crazy 2020 for a lot people and money is tight for most right now, and we know this may be a long shot, but if any of you have it in your hearts to take part in helping us give Duggie a fighting chance it would be very much appreciated! Thank you in advance for any donations!
