Give Dolores a Shot at Life

Hi,

Last month I was working in a home and found a severely neglected and abused bearded dragon. She had been bred with a large male in the cage next to her who bit off most of her lower jaw and half of her tail. She was in a tiny tank full of sand that she could barely turn around in. She had no food or water and no UV light. Her injured law was caked with sand and feces.

I knew I couldn't leave her there to die, so I told the owner that I knew how to care for these animals and asked if I could take her with me. They agreed and seemed happy to get rid of her.

 

 

The first thing I did when I got her home was give her an electrolyte bath, and she held my hand a drank for 20 minutes straight.

 

She was so very dehydrated and weak, I didn't think she'd live through the night, but I got her special food from the vet and fed her from a syringe three times a day for a week. She eventually moved on to solid food, and now she eats so well it's hard to have enough for her!

 

She has been spending time in the garden and eating every day and really enjoying life! It's so wonderful to see an animal so close to death come so far.

Unfortunately, the vet told me today that her exposed law bone is infected, and she needs surgery to survive. My other option was to euthanize her.  I don't want to give up on her, but I need help paying for her surgery; anything you can spare would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Let's give her a chance!
