Give Djamilah the Gift of a Bilingual Education

Hi, my name is Safyany—but you can call me Safy!

I’m a single mom, a full-time student at CSU East Bay, and I recently lost my part-time job. This year has brought its share of challenges, including revisiting family court hearings that have affected my parenting time and the support I receive.

One of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make is where to enroll my daughter, Djamilah, in preschool for the 2025-2026 school year, which starts in August. She’s half Cambodian/Mexican, and I want her to grow up with a strong connection to her heritage. After carefully exploring our options, her father and I (we're not together) agreed that Escuela Bilingüe Internacional (EBI) in Emeryville is the best fit. EBI’s mission of bilingual education, character development, and global citizenship aligns beautifully with the values I want to nurture in Djamilah.

When it came time to enroll, the school graciously extended our deadline and awarded us $10,000 in tuition assistance. We also received a $2,750 scholarship from The Basic Fund. But just as things were coming together, her father informed me that he could not contribute financially.

That’s why I’m reaching out to my community for support.

Here’s the breakdown:

Total Pre-K Tuition: $33,150

Tuition Assistance from EBI: -$10,000

The Basic Fund Scholarship: -$2,750

Remaining Balance: $20,400

I’m asking for help covering $6,500 of that amount.

Your support would allow Djamilah to attend a school where she can thrive. Where her bilingualism is nurtured, her identity is celebrated, and she’s encouraged to grow into a compassionate and curious global citizen.

More than just a preschool, this is an opportunity to give her the solid foundation every child deserves. And it will also allow me to focus on finishing my degree, regaining stability, and becoming fully self-sufficient. ✨✨
