Hi, my name is Laura and I’d like to introduce you to Deema and her family. I was introduced to Deema through the Hands Up Project, a charity which connects children from around the world with children in Palestine. I am currently volunteering for the Hands Up Project and have seen first hand the amazing work that they do.

Deema has previously been an active Hands Up Project member. She took part in lots of online Hands Up Project drama activities from her English drama club at Asmaa prep girls UNRWA school in Gaza city. She played the mother in ‘unity’ which was created during lockdown. Deema is an enthusiastic and creative student and as you can see below just wants the same things every young person wants - to be safe, to have hopes and dreams for the future and to make her family proud.

Hello, everyone

I’m Deema.

Me and my family were forced to leave our homes because of the war on Gaza strip and because our homes were destroyed we left our houses without any winter clothes. We didn’t find a place and we were forced to live in a tent. We face the coldness every day and we getting ill day by day because of the bad food and the unclean water and we don’t find medicine. I haven’t take a shower since a month because the water is too little.

My father and my sisters their hearing became worst in the war because of the booming sounds and my sister became a Bell’s palsy patient.

This year was supposed to be my last year of high school and I was excited to spread the joy in my family home by getting high grades but the reality is different. I’m here, cold scared and exhausted. My father lost his work.

We deeply need your help to evacuate form Gaza to Egypt, our only chance to escape this darkness is through evacuation to Egypt. Your generosity can be the lifeline that saves my family and shows the world the strength of compassion and unity.

I’m thankful for your support and kindness. You’re giving my family the chance to live away from stress and giving the children a chance to live a normal life and chance for the baby to birth in a better condition.
