Funeral Services for Deborah Mais

Deborah Mais, a loving daughter, sister, and young mother of three boys,  was involved in a horrific, life-threatening car accident in College Station, Texas in late October. Unfortunately, she was in the passenger's side of the car, pictured here:

Miraculously, she survived.

But as you would imagine, Deborah sustained many injuries, including multiple broken bones between her collar bone and pelvis, and even cuts to some of her organs. Unfortunately, that's the good news, according to her doctors — those things can and will heal relatively easily with time.

The biggest obstacle to her recovery is a severe traumatic brain injury that will require weeks of intensive, inpatient rehabilitation, and months, and even years, of continued outpatient therapies. She has remained primarily in a comatose state, but is slowly starting to come back to regain awareness. Her future remains unclear, even to her doctors.

They tell us that her best chance at a meaningful recovery and quality of life — regaining her ability to walk, talk, eat, drink, and care for her three boys — is to get her into the specialized inpatient neurorehabilitation facility at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston, immediately. Time is crucial, and every day counts. The sooner she can start rehabilitation, the better her chances of recovery.

(Deborah's three boys, ages 10, 8, and 6):

Unfortunately, due to her circumstances at the time of the accident, Deborah did not have a health insurance policy in place. As difficult as it is for our family to  ask for help, our goal is to raise at least $100,000 with the help of our friends, family, and community, to ensure Deborah receives the rehabilitation she will need to meaningfully recover from the accident.

The specialists at TIRR Memorial Herman have recommended in-patient treatment for 36 days, at an estimated cost of $2,600 per day. That’s an estimated cost of over $93,000. They also advise that there are likely to be incidental costs that could amount up to an additional $20,000-30,000.

This is a staggering amount of funding for our family to pay up front, before she can be admitted.

However, we've been blessed by the kindness and generosity of the Randy & Cheryl French family, who have pledged a meaningful sum that will help get Deborah into TIRR.

But we need your help to get Deborah the rest of the way there.

Deborah needs our help at a second chance at life.
Despite suffering more trauma and pain in her 31 years than most will in a lifetime, she has remained a loving, caring, and generous mother and daughter, with an unrivaled sense of faith, creativity, humor, and generosity.

If we can raise the funds to give her this second chance, she will wake up to know, once-and-for-all, that the world is, indeed, full of love and people who care — and her boys need a chance to get their mom back.

If we are unsuccessful, the alternative is for her mother to take primary care of her in a state of complete disability, in addition to her boys.
We all love her dearly but do not have the expertise required for her to have meaningful rehabilitation.

We completely understand how difficult it can be to have much extra in these times, so our family would be eternally grateful for any amount that you are willing and able to contribute. If you are unable to give monetarily,  please put Deborah and her boys in your prayers.

Also, simply sharing this fundraiser with your friends, family, or prayer network would be so helpful and meaningful for us.

Thank you for taking the time to read, pray, share, and contribute!

Gratefully,

Dolly (Mom)
