Please help my friend Dawn get a cochlear implant.
Hello, my name is Shannon, and I'm hoping to raise funds for my friend, Dawn. At the age of 30, Dawn started to lose hearing in her right ear. She pushed through her extreme health anxiety multiple times to try and get it addressed with primary care providers in her local area, only to have them continuously focus on other things despite her requests to have her hearing loss addressed. Over the last 6 years, she has completely lost hearing in her right ear, only to notice it moving over to her left ear over the last year. She has finally found a provider that listens to her, and the issue is finally being addressed. It has been determined that she needs a cochlear implant for her right ear and a hearing aid for the left. Though hearing loss is a natural part of life, it is not typical for hearing loss to happen in this way to someone in their 30s, and the doctors are still trying to figure out why this happened to begin with.
As most of you likely know, our medical system is not set up in a way that makes it easy for people to afford healthcare, even with insurance. I am asking you to consider donating to help her cover her medical bills related to her hearing care. She was failed by her providers for 6 years and has spent the bulk of that time hearing the world as though she were underwater.
Dawn is the type of person who always does for others before she does for herself. She loves fiercely and enjoys taking photos, engaging in her hobbies, and spending time with loved ones. She deserves to be able to hear the laughter of her nieces and nephews, to be able to listen to the music she enjoys, and to hear the voices of her friends, several of whom live long distance and want to be able to call and talk.
My commitment to you: We will be transparent with the medical costs so that people know exactly where their money is going. We will keep people aware of updates and progress as it occurs. And anything in excess of what she needs for her medical bills related to this will be donated to Hearts for Hearing.
I know the world is crazy right now and money is tight for many. Things are uncertain and stressful for everyone. But even a little bit will help, so please consider donating, even if it's just the cost of a coffee this week. Thank you.
