Give David a better quality of life

Hi my name is Manjit and I am fundraising for my husband David. 2 years ago in 2021 David was a healthy, active, strong HGV Class 1 driver who worked throughout the Covid pandemic but unfortunately with no warning David suffered a sudden stroke which has resulted in him loosing an extreme amount of weight and muscle quite rapidly. David has also been diagnosed with having an under active thyroid, diabetes and Barretts Oesophagus. Then in March 2022 David was urgently sent to see a Consultant Neurologist who performed various tests which showed that David was now suffering from Vascular Parkinson's Disease. Then in May 2022 to further complicate David's situation he then suffered a heart attack on top of all his other medical challenges he is currently facing. In February 2023, David went to see the Neurology Consultant after conducting Test and confirmed that there had been severe damage caused to the brain and that David's condition would not improve but only get worse and that the stroke has caused problems with David's memory which will progress into full blown vascular dementia which David is now showing clear signs of. As you will have probably guessed because of David's complex health issues he is completely unable to work, has very limited mobility and is now completely house bound and therefore I have been working hard to put in place the relevant provision and equipment to try and make David's quality of life better and ensure that he can get around the house safely and as easily as possible. To try and do this I first of all contacted the local authorities who came out and did a full assessment of David's needs and requirements and the report from this assessment clearly shows that David needs a stair lift as the property we are in does not have a toilet or bathroom facilities downstairs and also because of this the social worker recommended that a wet room would be highly beneficial to support David's needs and promote his independence. The Social Housing provider we are with recommended to us that because of David's complex health issues that we should consider moving to a 1 bedroom flat however due to David's health deteriorating so much and his progressing dementia this would be totally impossible and would not help David at all. After the assessment from the Social Worker I applied to the local council for support and funds from the disability funding grant to help us install a stair lift and wet room however unfortunately due to this grant being means tested and me still working we have been informed that we are not entitled to any help or support. The means test literally took my gross salary in to account and this was before any deductions including bills, rent and any additional support or items that are required for David. Once I had received this decision I challenged it and had to put in a formal complaint to the council however yet again I was told no support was going to be given and that I could not appeal and because of this no option to appeal I did write to the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street to make him aware of this process and how unfair it is. So this now brings me to the reason why I have had to set up a go fund me page as I need to find 8000 pounds to be able to get the stair lift and the wet room installed so that David can have a better quality of life and a bit more independence than he currently has.
