We are reaching out for support for a hardworking husband and father of two, Damon Thompson, who has been given the incredible gift of a double lung transplant. Damon has always been a pillar of strength for his family, friends, and co-workers—offering love, encouragement, and care despite facing serious health challenges. Now, he needs our help more than ever.

Damon’s Story

Fourteen years ago, at just 40 years old, Damon was diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin (AAT) Deficiency, a rare genetic disorder that affects the lungs and liver. This condition prevents his liver from producing enough of a vital protein which protects the lungs from damage.

To slow the disease, Damon has receives weekly infusions of Prolastin-C Liquid, a life-saving therapy made from donated human plasma. Despite his commitment to treatment and maintaining full-time work, his condition has worsened over the years.

Damon now had less than 18% lung capacity, and doctors have determined that a double lung transplant was his only chance at survival. Without it, he would have less than three years to live—a heartbreaking reality for someone only 53 years old, full of life, and dedicated to his family.

Why We Need Your Help

The cost of a double lung transplant is overwhelming and far beyond what any family can manage alone. In addition to the surgery itself, there are numerous related expenses—pre-transplant evaluations, long hospital stays, post-surgery care, rehabilitation, and essential medications (including the ongoing Prolastin-C therapy).
