My name is Damien Young, and when I was just 21 years old, I was sentenced to 53 years to life for attempted murder. For nearly two decades, I’ve watched others receive far shorter sentences even for actual murder. It’s been heartbreaking and frustrating knowing my punishment doesn’t match the crime, and for years, I had no legal path to challenge it.
But in 2024, everything changed. Governor Sununu signed into law RSA 651-7A, specifically the bill, HB596, addressing racial disparities in sentencing. For the first time, I have a real chance at receiving a fair and just review of my case.
What’s standing in the way now is legal representation, and that’s where I need your help.
I made a mistake when I was young, and I’ve spent these last years paying for it and growing from it. I’m not the same 21-year-old kid who walked into prison. I’m a man now, with hope, purpose, and the desire to live a meaningful life on the outside.
This GoFundMe was created by a friend who believes in me and wants to help me get that second chance. Every donation, no matter how small, brings me closer to that goal.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I appreciate your support, prayers, and kindness.
God bless.
