My name is Alex and I'm a bunny parent/rescuer/foster/volunteer for All About Rabbits Rescue in NYC. I was contacted a couple of days ago about a dumped bunny who desperately needed to be taken off the streets and receive urgent medical attention.
This is Cricket. He was found in a known dumping area, with multiple bunnies, in a park in Queens, and has now joined All About Rabbits Rescue.
Cricket has suffered a debilitating hind leg fracture, from the looks of it at the hip joint, resulting in a floppy leg, which will most likely need an amputation. Just the surgery alone will cost around $5000, not to mention the emergency visit, neuter, blood work, and fecal test along with parasite medication.
Besides the dirty fur and extremely long nails, he also had a giant dry fecal matter and dirt ball stuck to his rear, making it difficult to poop, something that can be life-threatening as bunny parents know. His cleaning took more than an hour, and the pictures and the smell were frankly nothing words could describe.
Despite the major pain Cricket is in, he is still a very sweet bunny who seeks human interaction and loves people. After receiving a butt bath, he showed his appreciation by giving kisses! He is now living indoors for the first time in his life, receiving pain medication and 24/7 care.
With a conservative estimate of medical care starting at $5500, we need all the help we can get. All About Rabbits Rescue is funded strictly by donations, and without your help, poor Cricket will have only known suffering in his short life.
With 50+ rabbits in our care already, several requiring constant medical care, our funds are stretched very thin, and we'll need additional funds just for Cricket alone.
