This cutie patootie purr face is one of my foster kittens, Cindy. She is the sweetest lover girl.
Cindy, sadly, was born with a mild to moderate case of pectus excavatum. Pectus excavatum, also known as sunken chest or funnel chest, is a congenital chest wall deformity in kittens where the sternum (breastbone) caves inward, potentially affecting the heart and lungs.
Last week, I took her to my own vet. In a combination of palpation of her rib cage and an X-ray, it was confirmed that her heart has started to be affected. It's only a matter of time before it starts affecting her lungs and she goes into respiratory distress. At that point, there's only one thing to do: euthanasia.
My vet worked quickly to get me as much information as she could, along with phone numbers to veterinary clinics that perform the corrective surgery. In Dr. Marshall's words, "She stands a great chance at a full recovery and a long life. She's a great kitten and she deserves the chance at that."
We cannot agree more.
Please give this sweet baby the opportunity to live.
