Give Christopher the Gift of a Forever Home!

Tax deductible
Help Christopher get every dog’s ultimate Christmas wish: a forever home with a loving family! This fundraising effort will directly help Christopher receive the one-on-one professional dog training needed to make him adoption ready! You can help the Jefferson County SPCA get Christopher on the path out of shelter life once and for all by donating today.

Christopher is a wonderful 2-year-old Pit Bull Rottweiler. He is one sweet, extremely sharp pup! Sadly, Christopher has been forced to live in various shelters for nearly an entire year! We believe Christopher’s main obstacle is impulse control and built-up frustration caused by long-term kennel stays without an appropriate outlet for his energy or intelligence.  This frustration has led to some undesirable behaviors, and even with in house training at the SPCA, we have come to the realization that Christopher’s needs go beyond the SPCA’s current capabilities.

The Jefferson County SPCA would like to send Christopher to a 2-week board and train “vacation” at Mountainside K9, located in Rensselaer Falls. Mountainside K9 has very generously offered the SPCA and Christopher this opportunity for a low fee of $1,000. Once Christopher has completed his training at Mountainside, he will need to be in a situation where his training can continue- either with a foster or a potential adopter. He will need a home where he has a job and  can continue with regular exercise along with his training classes.

Christopher has been in the care of the Jefferson County SPCA since August of 2020. He was adopted and brought to Northern New York where he was dropped off and never picked up again at a day care facility. The facility tracked him back to a shelter in Florida. Through microchip tracing, we discovered Christopher originally came from a high-kill shelter in Texas where he was transferred to a rescue in Florida.  Christopher has been adopted a few times while in the North Country, but unfortunately due to situations outside his control (he did not get along with the other dogs in the home, or the landlord at another home), he has been returned every time. Sadly, with every return, he seems to regress further into frustration and confusion.

Christopher gets extremely excited when he finally has the opportunity to be outdoors in a playful environment, and this excitement leads to a lot of jumping as well as “mouthy behavior.” He becomes very wound up and will start biting and tugging on his leash as well as at clothing and hands. He will also bark and sometimes even growl, which has been very off putting to most adopters.

We believe with the help of Mountainside K9, and our amazing community, we can finally find Christopher his forever family!

Any additional funds raised will be used to help other dogs with behavioral issues or extraordinary medical issues.

We are also taking applications for foster for when Christopher “graduates.”
