Hi! We started fostering Estee (aka "Chicken Wing") on October 26th. She was fondly nicknamed Chicken Wing because she only has 3 working legs and her 4th looks like a little chicken wing:) She has stolen the hearts of us and all around campus. Unfortunately, she came to us with fleas, and once we got that taken care of, we thought we were in the clear. After a month of bonding, she became extremely attached, and we decided it would be best to adopt her and give her a stable home. Previously, she was in and out of shelters and had never experienced living in a home due to her previous owners being unhoused and often squatting in various areas. Therefore, she has never received preventative meds before. 

We took her to the vet today, and the shelter didn't test (or didn't tell us) that she is highly positive for heartworms. Although we had budgeted expected costs from vet visits, routine meds and care, food, etc., we did not anticipate this ~$2,000+ price tag on top of the $1,000 we have already spent on her vet visit, vaccines, preventative meds, flea treatments, etc. If Estee/Chicken Wing has brought any joy to your life, we would appreciate any donation to keep her life going and contribute to the long road ahead :)
