Hi everyone
For those of you I haven’t met yet—my name is Michelle. I moved to Georgia about four months ago, and since then I’ve been regularly visiting Petco for my pets’ essentials. During that time, I’ve gotten to know a Sun Conure there who has completely stolen my heart-Cheeto.
He’s been in the store for months, alone in a small enclosure, without natural sunlight or meaningful interaction. Over time, I’ve watched his condition decline, and he’s now showing signs of severe stress—specifically feather plucking, where he’s pulling out and even ingesting his own feathers. It’s heartbreaking to see. Parrots will often do this when they are severely depressed and can start experiencing seizures as well and pass away
I’ve been trying to work with the store to bring his cost down, but unfortunately, they won’t adjust the price until he reaches their “length of stay” markdown threshold
I did find a parrot sanctuary about three hours away that has large outdoor aviaries and the proper environment for birds like him to truly thrive. My goal is to purchase him and safely transport him there so he can finally experience the life he deserves.
If you’re able to contribute in any way—or even just share this post—I would be incredibly grateful. Every bit helps get him one step closer to a safe, enriching, and happy life.
No living creature should have to spend their life in a cage with no natural light & love. I know I can’t save them all, but I’m trying to do what I can help me give Cheeto a life
Thank you so much for your kindness and support
