Hello,
This fundraiser is for Cheddar. An 8 month old golden retriever who has already had a rough go at life. Our goal is to be able to raise enough for Cheddar to get a surgery that will fix his liver shunt so that he can be a puppy again.
Cheddar was adopted 4 months ago and for the first month he was a fairly normal happy go lucky pup just with somewhat known heart issues. About a month after being adopted Cheddar took a turn and began vomiting and having loose stool, peeing blood and went from a happy puppy to not even moving when you come in the room.
After many test and a lot of different doctors we found that Cheddar has a intrahepatic liver shunt and an extremely rare heart condition called hypokinetic non-dilated cardiomyopathy which are very weak heart muscles that can't pump blood well and chronic kidney stones. Throughout the process of this he just wasn't being a dog, he would only go out to use the bathroom when needed, really did not want to eat anything and was just really dumpy and slept all the time.
He was put on lactulose and metronidazole to help get some of his ammonia levels to normalize and omeprozale because he has some stomach ulcers but these are temporary just to keep him comfortable.
The first step to get him better is to do difficult surgery called percutaneous transvenous coil embolization (PTCE)which is minimally invasive and his only option due his heart condition.
Please help us get Cheddar back to being a puppy again!
