Give Charley a Pain-Free Future

Hi, a friend of our’s mother found this sweet girl running around the marsh in the Long Neck area of Delaware. She appeared to be healthy with the exception of not being able to walk on her right rear leg. They tried extensively to find her owner, but no one came forward to claim her. They named her Charley. We offered to take her, and we took her to the vet and discovered she has a luxated hip, meaning the head of her femur bone is not in the socket, perhaps the result of some sort of traumatic event. We then took her to a specialist at Blue Pearl in Newark, DE, and they recommended a procedure called Femoral Head Ostectomy, which involves removing the head of the femur so that it will not rub against the pelvis and cause her any pain. She can control her leg with the muscles, although she’ll never be 100%. Putting the femur back in the socket is not an option since we have no idea how long it has been like that and it would likely not stay in place. The estimate for the surgery is $5800-$6300. We really appreciate anyone who is inclined to help us cover some of the cost of the surgery. She is scheduled for surgery on May 12th.
Thank you very much,
Carla and Steph
