Hello Friends and Animal Lovers!
Last week, we rescued a dog from a hot vehicle in Sacramento, CA, where the high of that day was 102. He was noted to have been there since the day prior to rescue. He was weak, severely dehydrated, stressed, and stuck under the steering wheel upon rescue. Water was being poured into the small cracks that were there, but he was unable to move. The Fire Department was on their way, but time was of the essence - we were able to get in and drag him out finally. He drank water for over 30 minutes, we hosed him down, fed him and got him to safety.
Right away, there was no doubt in my mind this boy was special. He was grateful we got him out. This dog was eventually surrendered to us by the owner. Neglect was obvious and it was clear this giant boy had been through a lot. After a visit to the ER Vet, MarQueen, we learned he was roughly 8-10 months old, deaf, dehydrated, thin, and extremely weak in his back legs. It was unknown if he was injured or just extremely weak from being malnourished. He was given an IV and some meds to start his healing. After a couple of nights at a few different foster homes, the Sullivan Family asked me if they could meet him. They were in LOVE instantly. They introduced him to their beloved dog Penny and it was a match made in heaven. They decided to add Chance to their family. The Sullivan's quickly learned his legs were worse than we thought. He was collapsing while running around and clearly in pain. They took him back to MarQueen and had blood work and X-Rays done. While his bloodwork was in good standing, his body tells a sad story. Both of his CCLs are torn and his knees are packed with fluid. The Vet has quoted them roughly 6-7k for each knee. While they would like to explore PT before jumping to surgery, it is still extremely pricey and could very well be unsuccessful.
The Sullivan's have gone above and beyond opening up their home and hearts to this absolute angel boy. I do not want to see the Sullivan's burdened with financial hits because of their kindness. I am asking for any donations to go towards Chance's vet expenses and food while they navigate these next steps. Chance is in great hands with this loving family but please help me raise funds for them to get Chance his SECOND Chance at a healthy long life. Chance is so young and the Sullivan's want to start taking action immediately so he can begin to heal and enjoy his new life!
