Hi everyone, I want to tell you a little bit about this baby's story. He was struggling in the middle of the street between two lanes. His back legs were not moving, and he could barely hold his little body up straight. He was terrified, trying to get away from the moving cars. He was panicking, trying to move as fast as possible, but this baby was having a very hard time. Nobody stopped or looked at him. Every car just slowed down enough to go around him and keep going. No one paid attention to this little baby, and that broke my heart into a million pieces. He was able to move out to the side away from the cars and just tucked himself against the sidewalk. He looked exhausted and in pain. His little face tucked away between his front paws, just sitting there. I pulled over and slowly approached him. I greeted him, and he did not seem to react. I petted his head, and he also didn't move at all. I picked him up, scared that I was hurting him, as I did not know what had happened to his back legs. He didn't resist at all, which made me even sadder because cats usually won't let themselves be caught easily, so that made me think he was truly exhausted. I wrapped half his body in the only towel I had in my car and put him on my lap. I wasn't sure what to do, but I couldn't stop crying. He looked so defeated, and the thought of this baby being all alone in the streets, struggling to get by with an injury and trying to survive on his own was devastating. I gave him some water, but he didn't drink any of it. And that's when he opened his mouth wide and started panting as if he were a dog. I secured him on my lap and drove to the nearest vet. He was panting the whole 13-minute drive. I talked to him between tears, and he would look at my face every time he heard my voice, but if I looked at him, he would hiss. That made me feel better somehow. He was trying to defend himself from a stranger. At the vet, they took him in immediately and checked him. That's when I found out he was a he and gave him his name, CD. I have a cat whose name is TV, so CD was just the right move. CD was stabilized and put on oxygen. I asked as many questions as possible: What happened to him? Is he going to be okay? What are the vets going to do to him? Will he be able to walk again? They weren't able to tell me immediately, so I waited for about an hour. I was told to leave and come back later. So about 4 hours later, I was there and was able to speak to the doctor. The vet told me he is about 3 years old and is neutered, so we think he either ran away from home or was abandoned. Apparently, he was hit by a car, and his hip is fractured. Poor baby was trying to get away from the road with a fractured hip. His bloodwork was good, and he doesn't seem to have any parasites externally or internally. I was given pain medication to give him and instructions on how to care for him. The doctor informed me of the options I had: he could go into surgery to get his hip fixed, or he could rest for 6-8 weeks until he heals and is able to walk again. I was quoted around $8,000.00 for this surgery, but the doctor did let me know that there could be complications with the anesthesia, and he would have to spend some time recovering from it anyway, so taking him home and resting and giving him a space to lay down and relax was the best option. So I took him home with me. He has a little cage, as you can see, and he has been sleeping on that bed all this time. I brought him home on Sunday night, 11/2, and he is scheduled to go back in for a follow-up visit on 11/17. This little baby is incredibly sweet and loves being petted. The vets said he was a little feisty, but he has been nothing but sweet and calm with me. I was not expecting this to happen, and even though I have always wanted another fur baby, it'd be financially irresponsible to do so right now. But I knew I didn't want him to be alone. I want him to be healthy and have a home while he recovers. The vet bills are increasing, and I can only do so much, so if you're seeing this, it would mean the world to us if you could donate. Anything helps. The current total is $2,397.41 but will most likely increase with every follow-up visit as he needs x-rays. The vet said it would be approximately $600 extra for the x-rays he's getting on 11/17. I know we all have seen videos on social media about strays being rescued. I never imagined that could be my situation. And even though it is a struggle and I'm not sure how things will go, I don't want to give up on him. CD deserves to live just like you and I; he deserves a home, a bed, and a loving family. I am not sure if me and TV are his forever family yet, but we will take care of him until he is ready to be adopted. Be a part of CD's journey to recovery and help us reach our goal. He deserves the whole world. Thank you for reading.
