Give Calliope More Sunlit Days: Support Her Cancer Treatment

It breaks my heart to have to inform our friends, family, and community that we recently found out that this sweet love of mine has Transitional Cell Carcinoma with a tumor in her bladder. This type of cancer is incurable and aggressive, but luckily the tumor is in an operable location and can, as they say, reset the clock and give us more time to help keep Calliope comfortable and extend her quality of life. She does not seem to be in any current pain and acts unaware that she is ill. She is eating, playing, running, and happy. Her care team says she is a good candidate for surgery which is scheduled for Wednesday, April 30th.

Calliope came into my life a little over 10 years ago as a sweet, loving, nervous little ball of mischief that ruled The Shop (Salon/Barber Shop) as its first shop dog. She had all the stylists and surrounding stores wrapped around her paw, as she snuck out for treats and pets on the bustling North Berkeley street. As she has gotten older, she seems to enjoy staying home more, where she free roams a shared backyard and visits neighbors often, claiming the best sun spots for herself. She has had an amazing life so far.

I am currently applying for grants to help curb the costs. I realize we are asking for a lot, but anything helps as this surgery and process will have many recurring costs. This is an expense way beyond my means.

Calliope and I appreciate any assistance given no matter how small. Times are tough for many of us, so we understand if we can't reach our goal. We also accept kind words, snacks ...and hugs, but ask and come at us slowly as we startle easily.
