Help Us Keep Buddy Comfortable Through His Final Weeks
This is incredibly hard to share. My dad’s dog, Buddy—who has been our mom’s lifeline through the hardest year of her life—was just diagnosed with a rapidly progressive cancer causing malignant ascites. In only ten days, he went from a happy, active 15-lb dog to carrying over 12 pounds of fluid, struggling to breathe and rest comfortably.
The veterinarian told us that the only way he has a chance of making it to Christmas is with at least two fluid removals per week, each costing $150. Even then, his time is limited.
Buddy’s Story
When our dad had his stroke, Buddy was at the hospital with him every day. He never left his side. After our dad passed, Buddy stayed by my mom’s side in a house that went from full and lively to quiet and heavy with grief. He has been her comfort, her routine, and the little piece of stability she still had.
Why We’re Asking for Help
Our mom has been hit hard financially after losing my dad, adjusting to one income, and managing end-of-life expenses. My sister and I have already paid over $2,000 for Buddy’s care, but with everything that has happened this year—our dad’s passing, my dog Lola, her dog Josie—our resources are stretched thin.
Buddy will need two fluid drainages per week to stay comfortable through the holidays, and when the time comes, we want to give him a peaceful in-home euthanasia surrounded by love ($400).
What Donations Will Cover
• Fluid removals: $150 each (2 per week through Christmas)
• In-home euthanasia: $400
• Any remaining funds will be given directly to our mom to help her with everyday living expenses during this incredibly difficult time
We don’t ask for help often, but this year has been full of heartbreak and unexpected challenges. If you’re able to donate or share, we would be so grateful. Thank you for helping us support Buddy and give my mom a little peace during the holidays.
