My name is Steve Mutter, and I live out in Okeechobee, Florida.

I’m not the kind of person who asks for help easily — I’ve always worked hard, done what I could with what I’ve had, and kept going no matter what life’s thrown my way. But right now, I’m in a situation that’s bigger than me.

A few days ago, my little dog Buddy — my best friend, my right-hand man — was attacked by a much bigger dog. What looked like a small bite wound turned into something terrifying. The attack tore his inner diaphragm, caused his intestines to push through into his chest, and even damaged part of his lung area.

The vet told me the only way to save him is through emergency surgery. It’s risky — about a 50/50 chance — because of his internal injuries and the anesthesia. But that’s still a chance worth taking, because this isn’t “just a dog.” Buddy’s been my partner, my comfort, and my constant through everything life’s thrown at me. He’s family.

The surgery costs $4,000, and I’ve been denied every credit and payment option possible. I don’t have that kind of money lying around, but I do have hope — hope that there are still good people out there who care enough to help someone fight for a life that deserves saving.

Buddy’s a fighter. He still looks up at me with those same eyes that say, “I’m not done yet.”

So I’m doing everything I can to make sure he gets that chance to live, run, and play again.
