Give Brook a "leg up" to recovery!
// WHAT HAPPENED
On a snowy Friday afternoon, Brook was on her way home from Chuck & Don's after getting some dog food - when suddenly - everything changed forever. She was in a car accident, and while lucky to be alive, she broke her leg in the most unlucky way. It's going to require 5 surgeries and over 8 months of rehab & recovery.
WARNING: Graphic details - Her lower right leg suffered a compound fracture (where both her Tibia and Fibula snapped, puncturing the skin, and even the winter boot she was wearing) as well as a couple hairline fractures in multiple spots. The first surgery (Feb 8) was to put the bones back into place, and clean the wound. The 2nd surgery (Feb 16) will be to remove dead/broken bone + install antibiotic-loaded bone cement spacer + install titanium rods. 3rd surgery (TBD) will be to do muscle/skin graft. 4th surgery (TBD) will be for a bone graft. And the 5th surgery (TBD) will be for additional plates/rods/screws.
// WHAT'S NEEDED
Brook is a full time CNA, who worked overnights at a Dementia & Alzheimer's facility helping care for the elderly, all while going to school full-time, living on her own in an apartment, caring for her Great Dane.
She's your typical 23-year old American girl; working hard to pay bills, pay for school, chase her dreams, and figure life out while trying to get ahead. And yet, at the same time, not-so-typical with how much her heart bursts at the seams with love, kindness, and compassion for those around her.
An accident like this has the potential to completely sweep the rug out from under even the most established adult, but thanks to people like you, she's going to be alright! Whether it's $20 or $200, any amount helps take some of the stress off of Brook's shoulders so she can focus on healing, recovering, and getting back to school & work.
// ESTIMATED COSTS
Due to her work as a Certified Nursing Assistant, which is a physically demanding job, she will be unable to work for 2-3 months minimum - possibly longer - depending how things go. Because there are a lot of unknowns at this point, butwant to stay ahead of things and not fall behind, these are educated estimates and will be updated as we know more.
+ Living Expenses: $1100/mo
--- Rent, utilities, food, bills, meds, etc
+ Transportation Costs: $300/mo
--- She will be unable to drive for a minimum of 3-months, possibly longer, which means lots of Uber, Lyft, Taxis when Friends & family are unable to help. Doctor appointments, rehab appointments, food/grocery, etc.
+ Replacement car: $3,000
--- Her car is totaled, and insurance will not cover the full cost to replace the car with something safe & reliable.
+ Medical expenses: ??????
--- Who knows at this point, but there will most certainly be quite a bit of medical expenses. We will update as we know more.
// OTHER WAYS TO HELP
