Hello,
My name is Makinzi and I am writing to you to tell you my mothers story and raise awareness for what we are trying to do for her
Back in 2010, when I was 8 and my younger sister was 5, my mom was diagnosed with colorectal cancer for the first time at 28 years old while in nursing school. Thankfully with chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries she went into remission after a very tough battle. Then in 2019 she was tragically diagnosed with colorectal cancer for the second time. This time she was treated with the same chemotherapy and radiation but the day before her big surgery she learned her cancer had metastases to her lungs and lymph nodes, deeming her terminal, meaning no cure and no surgery. With the help of mayo clinic she went through multiple different trials of chemotherapy and radiation and we were lucky to get an extra 6 years with her. In 2024 her husband, who was our sole provider and anchor for our family, tragically passed away from the same type of cancer at the age of 60. It was heartbreaking for our family to lose our father and her husband so young, but this didn't stop her from fighting. 6 months ago we learned that the cancer had also spread to her brain. Thankfully, Mayo Clinic was able to treat her brain with targeted radiation. Now, as of her latest appointments, Mayo Clinic has run out of treatment options for her, stating they believe she may only have months left at the young age of 43 years old. Billie has two daughters, 24 and 19, and two young grandchildren, 2 and 10 weeks, who are the light of her life and that she would love to watch grow up.
After some research we found a facility in Tijuana Mexico that has a treatment plan to hopefully give her a chance at a longer life. This facility doesn't accept insurance so the total cost of treatment is around $60,000. After this most recent change in her condition Billie is no longer able to work. And we as her family are trying to give her as many experiences we can in case the treatment doesn't work. Even through this whole cancer battle Billie has worked full time as a registered nurse taking care of other people when she was fighting her own tough battle behind closed doors. She never gave up fighting and enjoyed helping other people in need, now it is our turn to take care of her. We are asking for help to raise money to help pay for this potentially life saving treatment and to help make her traveling dreams come true. All proceeds will go towards medical and travel expenses.
