My dear friend, Barbara Watson, is in dire need of our help.

For more than two months, Barb has been in and out of hospitals and rehabilitation centers. A few weeks ago, she underwent spinal surgery with the hope that it would allow her to walk again. Tragically, we have learned that the nerve damage is too severe, and despite her strength and determination, she is not making progress in rehabilitation. Doctors now believe Barb will most likely never walk again.

Barb has always been the first to give to others — whether it was money, food, clothing, or simply offering a ride to someone in need. She is the kind of person who never turned away a friend, neighbor, or stranger who needed a helping hand.

On top of her own struggles, Barb has been a devoted mother for 33 years to her son, Robbie, who was born with severe cerebral palsy. Robbie is nonverbal and wheelchair-bound, and Barb has cared for him tirelessly his entire life. With Barb now unable to walk or care for herself, Robbie is in an assisted living facility.

The hard truth is this: Barb’s home is not handicap accessible, and she cannot return there in her current condition. If the rehabilitation facility requires her to leave, she has nowhere safe to go.

We are asking for your help to raise funds to cover the costs of an assisted living facility — even temporarily — so Barb has the support and care she desperately needs while we work toward longer-term solutions.
