Give Barbara a Voice
Donation protected
One of the most caring and selfless people you could meet, my mum Barbara has always been a strong and determined person. The life and soul of any party with a smile that could brighten up anyone’s day.
On November 29th 2019 Barbara suffered from a ruptured aneurism resulting in major bleeding and damage to the brain. At first the outlook was not good but with her determination and fighting spirit she pulled through the critical stages of recovery.
As amazing as her recovery has been so far, unfortunately as with many brain injuries she has been left with life changing physical limitations. One of these is the loss of speech, and that is why I’m trying to raise funds to give Barbara her voice back.
During the early stages of her recovery Barbara relied on a ventilator to breath and this led to her having a tracheostomy fitted. This has had its complications and has prevented her from being able to speak. With all non essential treatments stopped It’s unknown at this time what can be done if anything to help regain any voice due to the ongoing COVID19 pandemic.
So with the fantastic team at Moseley Hall Hospital doing all they can to help Barbara, they have been trying different methods to enable her to communicate more easily. One such way is by using a device called a Lightwriter. This is a communication device where the user can type out messages which can then be relayed through speakers and display screens.
Barbara has by far found this the most helpful aid with commutation being made so much easier and less frustrating for her and who she’s trying to communicate with.
Unfortunately these devices don’t come cheap and funding is not available for Barbara to have her own Lightwriter. So after this week the device she has on loan has to be returned. Leaving her with very limited communication and no doubt a lot of frustration.
I am raising funds to enable Barbara to have a Lightwriter of her own and to be able to keep communicating easily.
We can only imagine how frustrating it must be not to be able to communicate the simplest of things.
So any donation you can give would be massively appreciated and would help to give Barbara, someone who has never asked for much, her voice back.
Thank you!
