Give Azusa a Chance for a Full Life

My name is Annie. We are in desperate need of financial help.

On Thursday, November 13th 2025 around 1:30pm, we were driving on 10 freeway east bound going to an assessment appointment for our 2 year old son. When I was approaching to exit on Azusa Avenue, my husband, Greg, said “I swear, I swear I just saw a tiny kitten sitting against the wall on the shoulder”. As soon as we got off the freeway, I contacted CHP. Since we were still early for the appointment, we decided to get back on the freeway to see if the kitten was still there. As we were approaching the exit, I turned on my hazard light and slowed down to look for the kitten. Then there she was, a tiny dot of a figure sitting against the wall and surrounded by debris on the shoulder. I pulled over and Greg got out with his sweater attempting to catch her. She was an easy catch. She was exhausted and unable to run.

We brought her home and named her “Azusa”. Then we noticed she had a huge laceration in her right hind paw. We made the earliest appointment we were able to get with a nearby veterinarian hospital. Upon examination by Dr. Zabihi at Duarte Azusa Animal Hospital, part of Azusa’s right hind paw was scraped off with bone exposed. Her injury was likely caused by being thrown out of a car. Dr. Zabihi treated the injury with antibiotic injection. Azusa was prescribed a course of oral antibiotics.

One month with several vet visits has passed. Despite the antibiotic treatment, Azusa is now battling an infection. Her injured paw is no longer functioning and needs to be amputated. Making the matter worse, Azusa has stopped eating due to loss of appetite from the side effect of amoxicillin. Now she is hospitalized receiving IV treatment with dextrose. Once she is stabilized and strong enough, she will undergo the amputation procedure.

Please!!!! We are in desperate need of financial help. We lost our home to Eaton Fire in Altadena on January 8th this year. Even though we are limited with funds right now, we thought maybe we could try to wing it. Unfortunately, we are at the point where we need to ask for help now.

Before Azusa’s hospitalization, we have already spent $1,411.87. Now Azusa has been hospitalized since Thursday, December 11th. It costs $295 per day for her hospitalization. The amputation procedure is estimated at $2,500.

I know what you may be thinking….. We did too. But Azusa happens to be the sweetest and the most loving kitten we have ever come across. She has not hissed even once with all the ordeals she is going through. She deserves the fighting chance to live a full life.

We need your help to help her.

Greg and I thank you for taking the time to read Azusa’s story.
