We are helping our good friends David and Shawn Martin cover part of their baby dog’s hip surgery. Arlo is an 11-month-old Airedale that was born without a hip socket. We have attached x-rays, the exorbitant charge to fix it, videos of Arlo, and a few words from him. While I admire the progress in veterinary care and their ability to save a dog like Arlo, the charge of $13,000 is more than these pet owners were ready to spend. But like you, they are not going to put down a dog that has become part of their family. This surgery is Arlo’s shot at having a normal life where he can run any play like God intended him to. Any help you can give to offset this cost is greatly appreciated. He has had his preliminary vet visits and x-rays and is headed under the knife on April 14th.
Arlo wanted to say a few words:
Hi there, hoomans! My name is AR-LO, and I love playing, barking and, word has it, that I have the waggiest tail in the world. I was actually born in a place called Oklahoma, but now I live in a new place called Phoenix with my mom, dad, and big brother Jake. Mom and Dad love me lots and they work and also take care of horses. The horses are my bestest buds and me and Jake make the best team. We like to run and play with them, but lately I haven't been able to do my zoomies and keep up with Jake. Dad has been having to lift me up into his truck all the time, so they took me to a VET-ER-INARIAN or something like that. It was kinda scary, but my mom was with me. But they told her I am missing something called a HIP-SOCKET and need a surgery right away. I don't know what that is, but apparently it's why my leg hurts and I keep running with my leg held up off the ground and can't jump and play with my bestie. But the surgery would fix it! My mom and dad really want me to have this surgery so I can run and play with Jake without it hurting, but it's going to cost lots of money, and I don't know how to make that. My mom and dad are doing everything they can, but it's a lot, so my uncle Bob thought maybe we could ask our paw friends to help pitch in and make my surgery happen. So we are trying to raise anything we can so that I can get my leg fixed and mom and dad can take turns staying home with me for the 12 weeks that I won't be allowed to run or jump. If you can spare a little to help me get my new hip, I will promise a lifetime of tail wags, snuggles and adventures, and even just sharing my story would help my family and me so much. Thank you for being a part of my family - I can't wait to show you my post-surgery zoomies!
