Our hearts break every day watching our 8-year-old daughter, Aria, fight a battle no child should ever have to face. Just 11 months ago, on January 14th, 2025, our world turned upside down when she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes — a disease that never rests and demands constant care, attention, and bravery.

Since that day, Aria has endured more than most adults could imagine. For the first seven months, she had to take seven shots a day, each one painful and frightening. Now she uses an Omnipod insulin pump, which she has to change every three days — still painful, as it’s inserted directly into her skin. She also wears a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) that must be replaced every ten days, another poke that causes discomfort and tears.

Even with all this technology, life with Type 1 Diabetes is exhausting. Aria experiences dangerous highs and lows that leave her emotionally and physically drained. The highs cause mood swings, headaches, and exhaustion; the lows can come suddenly and require quick treatment to keep her safe. She can never simply eat, play, or sleep without worry — every moment must be planned, checked, and monitored.

As parents, we watch her face this disease with incredible courage, but we also see how much it takes out of her — and out of our family. Type 1 Diabetes doesn’t just affect her; it affects all of us. The stress, sleepless nights, constant calculations, and fear of what could happen if something goes wrong are always there.

We are now praying for hope — and we believe we’ve found it through stem cell therapy. Recent medical advancements have shown that stem cells may help the body produce insulin again, potentially reducing or even curing Type 1 Diabetes. It’s not a guaranteed cure, but it offers a real chance for healing — a chance for Aria to live free from the daily pain and fear this disease brings.

Unfortunately, this treatment is not covered by insurance, and the total cost of in home travel, care, and the procedure is around $30,000. This is far beyond what our family can manage on our own, so we are humbly asking for help.

What is Type 1 Diabetes?

Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks the pancreas, the organ responsible for producing insulin. Insulin is a vital hormone that helps the body turn sugar (glucose) from food into energy. Without insulin, glucose builds up in the blood, which can be dangerous or even life-threatening.

Unlike Type 2 Diabetes, Type 1 is not caused by diet or lifestyle — it usually develops in childhood or adolescence. Children with T1D, like our daughter Aria, must carefully monitor their blood sugar all day and night, taking insulin through injections or a pump to stay alive. Even small mistakes in insulin dosing or timing can lead to highs (hyperglycemia) or lows (hypoglycemia), both of which can be painful, frightening, and dangerous.

Living with Type 1 Diabetes is a constant balancing act — eating, playing, sleeping, and even simple activities require careful planning. It is physically painful, emotionally stressful, and a huge responsibility, especially for a child.
