Help Alyssa Walk Again — Support After Life-Saving Transplant & Amputations

Story:

In May 2024, my dear friend Alyssa Garfield received a heart transplant that saved her life — but the journey since then has been unimaginably difficult. Following the transplant, Alyssa faced severe medical complications that nearly took her life again. She spent an entire month in a coma. When she awoke, her body had already endured far more than anyone should.

Alyssa’s kidneys failed. She developed gangrene in both feet and her dominant hand. She now lives with a catheter and a colostomy bag and receives kidney dialysis three times a week. Over time, she endured multiple amputations: three fingers, all toes on her left foot, and her right leg below the knee. Alyssa has also developed cataracts and can now barely see.

Today, Alyssa is completely disabled and has spent one year confined to hospital beds and nursing homes. Despite her condition, Medicaid coverage is still pending and could take up to another year from now to be approved for her ongoing care — including the prosthetic limb she needs to go home and regain even the smallest sense of independence and dignity.

Alyssa cannot leave the nursing facility without a prosthetic leg. She cannot walk. She cannot sit in a chair. She can barely see. She has been lying in a bed for one year with no idea when she will be able to go home.

We’re raising funds to cover:
• A prosthetic leg
• Cataract surgery
• Medical equipment and mobility aids
• Ongoing medical bills and care needs
• Basic quality-of-life items to support her daily living

Alyssa has been through hell and back. She is a fighter, a survivor, and one of the strongest people I know — but she cannot do this alone. Your support can give her the chance to sit, to stand, to see again, to go home… and eventually, to walk again.

Please donate if you can and share this with others who might be able to help. Every contribution makes a difference.

Thank you so much for your kindness, support, and love.
