UPDATE 04/03/2025: I have received a total of $235 worth of donations outside of GoFundMe, so I have updated the goal to reflect that. Thank you everyone who has contributed and shared so far!
Stevie is a sweet old man, estimated to be around 12-13 years old, and was found wandering in the rain back in January. When no owners were located, he was taken into a rescue, who shortly thereafter realized nobody was interested in adopting a blind senior dog. Little did they know - those are my specialty!
I connected with a volunteer from the rescue and agreed to foster Stevie. Upon receiving him, I recognized that he was in need of a lot of medical attention. I have never seen a mouth in as bad of shape as his was - thick, green plaque and pus lined his gums, and he was obviously in a lot of discomfort when eating. One of his eyes is shrunken, and both eyes have a full film of what we assume is cataracts, making him essentially blind. He was slightly underweight.
The rescue is overloaded with pets in need and didn’t have the resources for Stevie, so in order to get him the medical care he needs as soon as possible, my husband and I adopted him.
The good news is: despite his condition, he has no heart murmur, and his bloodwork came back excellent! This made him a good candidate for anesthesia, and within 10 days of settling in here at home, he had a massive dental, including 25 extractions!
I am raising money to cover the medical expenses that Stevie has incurred, so I can continue fostering and helping other senior pets in need. My husband and I tend to have at least one senior foster in our home at a time (and during kitten season, a couple neonates as well). Our passion is giving a forever home to the “unadoptables,” which are generally senior dogs with medical needs, or “fospice” situations.
Your donation will cover Stevie’s dental, medication for his eye (the shrunken one has an infection), bloodwork, and his upcoming appointment with an ophthalmologist (scheduled for April 8th). We may be looking at an enucleation, and will explore options for his not-so-good “good” eye.
Thank you for your consideration, and more so: thank you for loving animals!
