Rita has a long recovery ahead after a miter saw accident cut off the tip of her thumb and mangled her index finger (more information below). She needs help to take care of herself and her daughter as she will be unable to work for at least 8 more weeks. Please consider donating to the fundraiser on this site or you can send help directly to Rita using Venmo (search for her name Rita McBean in Venmo)
On February 27th, Rita cut off the tip of her thumb and mangled her index finger, dislocating it and shattering the bone. Her surgery was delayed several weeks as she battled the insurance company, and during this time she had numerous and very painful issues with the wound including a trip to the emergency room. After her surgery was finally completed, she was told this finger will probably have little to no movement and be numb indefinitely. 60% of people with this type of injury choose to amputate the finger within the year. This was devastating news, as Rita loves to play piano and flute, and is always working with her hands in some way. The recovery will take a minimum of 8 weeks before she will be able to work again.
And this is the hardest part of all, Rita needs help. Do you know how much Rita hates getting help from anyone? How long she has been taking care of herself and Nova on her own? She is the one who helps others. To forgo any unnecessary risks of contamination to herself or others, she requested that family and friends who are willing and able, to donate money to help pay for groceries and bills while she heals and recovers from this trauma. Any amount will help and thank you!
If you want more details of Rita's story and some pictures you can view her caring bridge site. Note that this site has many links to donate, but these are for the non-profit that hosts the site. We appreciate their work, but we wanted to make you aware that any donation you choose to give on that site will not be given to Rita. Please contribute to this gofundme to help Rita.
