My mom has been bravely fighting an aggressive form of uterine cancer since June 2024. She went through surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, but unfortunately the cancer has since spread and has passed the point of safe treatment. She is now hospice care in my home.

I am her only child and primary caregiver, and while I am grateful to be able to care for her, she now requires 24/7 support. Nights are especially hard as she struggles with restlessness and discomfort, and often neither of us gets much sleep. Hospice nurses are wonderful, but they can only come for short visits during the week and all of our family lives out of state.

To make sure I can keep caring for her, I’ve hired a private nurse for one night a week so that I can get some rest. Even that small break makes a huge difference in giving me the energy to be present for my mom. Unfortunately, private care is very expensive. One overnight visit costs about $400, which adds up to $1,600 a month, plus $280 for any emergency calls if additional support is needed. The costs are just adding up very quickly and is not covered by her insurance.

I’m creating this fundraiser to help cover the cost of respite care — specifically overnight help once a week. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps me continue to give my mom the comfort and care she needs in these final months, while also allowing me to rest and recharge.

I’ll be honest, it is very hard for me to ask for help. I have and am continuing to do all that I can on my own, to care for my mom, but this is truly the area where I need the most help.
