Give 64 Cats a Chance at Life
Tax deductible
On Monday, April 7th, the Hudson Valley SPCA's Humane Law Enforcement team led the rescue of 64 cats from a hoarding situation in Westtown, NY. The owner kept the cats in a broken-down school bus loaded with feces, rotting food, and the decaying corpses of furry friends who had passed.
Through the filth and stench, our volunteers worked valiantly to capture each of these animals and deliver them to our facility in New Windsor. There, each has been receiving healthy food, clean water, and of course, much-needed medical care.
The average cost of providing a cat with medical care and vaccines between arrival at the shelter and adoption is $300. That translates into nearly $20,000 for this needy crew! And that does not include food or litter!
Since we are not funded by the ASPCA or any other organizations or government agencies, your help is desperately needed so that we can continue our tireless work.
We hope we can count on you to help provide these deserving creatures with a better life!
CASE BACKGROUND
This is by far the most complicated rescue the Hudson Valley SPCA has done to date. These cats came from a New York City apartment where the woman was evicted. At that time she had over 100 cats and stuffed them all in a bus using a moving company and took off.
The HVSPCA recently located her and acted swiftly to remove these cats from what was clearly a death sentence. The 100 cats she had is, sadly down to 64 cats now. One can only imagine the fate of the others.
The greatest challenge of this rescue is the horrific medical condition that so many of these cats are in. We are taking them to the vet in groups and getting their multiple health issues addressed. As of now many of them will need to be treated up to and more than 40 days with multiple medications for upper respiratory, deep ear infections, open wounds, etc.
We desperately need the help as we are not funded by anyone, anywhere. Even $5 helps get their nails trimmed, many of which were growing into their pads.
In order to prevent cross-contamination, we desperately need pooper scoopers, disposable kitty litter pans, Purina cat food, canned food, lots of blankets and towels, metal water bowls, vaporizers, and pine litter from Tractor Supply.
All of these cats have a chance to live the life they have always deserved but we really cannot do it without your help. We are in desperate need of donations!!
