Hi, my name is Pam Bertrand. I have been a friend of Gitta Pohl for many years. Gitta has lived in the Tecalai Yori community in San Carlos, Sonora for 30 years. She is 77 years old and a two time widow. I know that she has lived extremely frugally for all the years I have known her. I know that she does not have health insurance at this time.

On March 23, 2026, at a visit with Dr. Mike Laux, he recommended that she immediately go to San Jose Hospital in San Carlos. He felt that time was of the essence and that Gitta would receive the care that she urgently needed. In the evening of March 23rd she underwent emergency, life-threatening surgery for peritonitis. During surgery, the surgeon discovered a tumor. This tumor was removed along with 50 cm of colon. Following the surgery, Gitta was placed on antibiotics to treat the toxins running throughout her body. Gitta was discharged to home on March 30th.

The hospital required payment on a daily basis for the fees and costs and for the anesthesiologist and surgeon. Gitta put a large sum on her credit cards towards the hospital bill of over $230,000 pesos. Several Tecalai residents came to the hospital and made contributions towards her bill. Gitta will now have to pay large line of credit at 9% and a credit card bill with 22% interest accruing. She will also require follow up medical care.

Gitta is now at home. At a visit with her today, her spirits were good and she looked good and she was walking in her trailer.

It is my hope and prayer that you find it in your heart to help Gitta out with the credit card balance so it doesn't take years to pay off. Gitta's sons have sent what money they can, and one son has gone to the bank to secure a loan for Gitta to purchase IMSS health insurance. Her son will know tomorrow if he is approved for this loan.
