I’m Max. My sister, Gisela Dedekind, was involved in a major car accident on Friday night (18/08/2023) while driving home in Johannesburg, South Africa. A car drifted into her lane and clipped the front of the vehicle she was driving. She sustained serious injuries including two fractured vertebrae in her neck and a dislodged disc, a major laceration on her leg and a concussion. She requires surgery to address the dislodged disc as it is pressing against her nerves and must have a tumour removed from her thyroid in order to perform the procedure (the tumour is wrapped around her vocal cords and windpipe). The removal of the tumour is also necessary for her continued ability to breathe and function.

My family are not of means and although my partner and I am able to support them to the extent possible from abroad here in Australia, they are in serious need of financial help to cover ongoing medical expenses and for the necessary surgery (the amount of which will be more than R240,000 or ~AU$20,000). Any amount that you can assist would go a long way in helping us to get her the medical attention she needs to get her back to full health. Please could you also assist in sharing this page.
